CEO

David has around 30 years of experience in the energy industry, with 15 of those spent living and working in the Middle East and South East Asia. With experience from the rig floor, through design engineering and business development, to C-Suite roles, he has managed multinational companies and people. David has a proven track record of developing technologies, managing teams, and building businesses and brands. Prior to joining Pragma, he led Deep Casing Tools from a turnaround position through a sale to a publicly traded International Service Company, then led their Eastern Hemisphere business until his departure. With a passion for technology, David is prioritising technology development and business growth at Pragma.

Des is a seasoned international finance executive with more than 25 years of experience leading financial strategy, governance, and operational performance across energy, engineering, manufacturing, and professional services sectors. He has a proven track record in senior leadership roles including Finance Director, Financial Controller, and Vice President Finance across the UK, Europe, and Norway. He is skilled in driving business transformation, strengthening financial controls, supporting growth, and leading high-performing teams in complex multinational environments. He has extensive experience in delivering commercial insight, operational efficiency, and sustainable business performance, with expertise spanning financial reporting, compliance, forecasting, and strategic planning.

Mark is an accomplished mechanical engineering leader with over 35 years’ experience across CNC machining, composites, precision electromechanical assemblies, rapid prototyping, and large-scale production in aerospace, defence, marine, oil and gas, and scientific sectors. He has contributed to major programmes including the UK nuclear deterrent, Military vehicle and both commercial and defence aerospace. Progressing from hands-on roles to Operations Director and General Manager, he has experience of Bringing change into businesses delivering efficiency gains, modernising manufacturing systems, and driving commercial growth whilst shaping long-term strategy.

Product Line Director - Well Barriers

Arild brings over 30 years of experience in the intervention industry. His strong track record in downhole operations, technology and product development includes a focus on R&D with BiSN Inc, and 15 years with Interwell, laterally as Global Product Line Manager for Customised Solutions. During that time, he played a key role in developing engineering capabilities in downhole tools and electronics, and was a leading voice in advancing downhole barrier verification monitoring methods towards (API & ISO 14310). Arild also holds several downhole technology patents, having contributed to innovation across downhole instrumentation and production technology during his career.

Derrick Docherty

Engineering Manager

Derrick has around 20 years’ experience in the oil, gas, and energy industry, having previously worked for Petrowell and Weatherford. He has extensive experience working on R&D projects that have introduced new technologies to the industry, in the form of RFID operated drilling and circulation tools, single trip completion systems, and ultra-high expansion well barriers. Joining Pragma at inception, his drive to help bring new and exciting technology to the industry is shared throughout the engineering team, fuelling the continued technology funnel and development of the Pragma range of ground breaking tools.

Spencer

Spencer Vanderpal

Global Sales & Account Manager

Spencer is a seasoned business development and sales professional with nearly four decades of international oil and gas experience. Beginning his career with Expro in 1987 in the slickline sector, he has gained vast operational expertise from the North Sea to the Middle East. Spencer spent over 25 years living and working in Qatar, Oman, and the UAE, holding senior leadership roles including Country Manager for Weatherford Oman, Regional GM for Swellfix (A Shell Technologies Company), and Middle East GM for ASEP. He later served as Global Sales Director for Brace Tool before returning to the UK to work with Expro and subsequently joining Pragma.

Business Development Manager - MENA Region

Mark is a seasoned oil & gas professional with around 30 years of experience across business development, regional leadership, sales management, and field operations, mainly within the Middle East and North Africa region. As Pragma’s Regional Business Development Manager, Mark has a proven track record of driving growth, strengthening client relationships, and leading high-performing teams. Career progression spans from Wireline Field Operator at SLB, to Field Engineer for downhole video services at Halliburton, followed by technical and commercial leadership roles at Expro, EV, RESMAN, and Weatherford. Mark is highly experienced in well intervention, regional sales strategy, operational management, and business expansion.

Ashraf

Mohamad Ashraf Bin Zainal Abidin

Business Development Manager - APAC Region

Ashraf has over 12 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, specialising in well intervention and completion. He began his career at Weatherford as an Applications Engineer, supporting offshore downhole tool operations and preparing technical and commercial proposals, progressing to a Project Coordinator role at Weatherford. Ashraf subsequently joined Interwell, where he played a key role in developing the completion business across Southeast Asia, securing projects in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. After three years, he was appointed as Sales Manager for Malaysia and Brunei, leading teams across intervention, completion, and other service lines, before joining Pragma.

For the oil and gas sector, Pragma’s technology solutions span the complete lifecycle of the well, from completion and intervention to production optimisation and P&A. With a field-proven track record, and expertise in the latest manufacturing materials and techniques, we are transferring our technology and knowledge to solve cross-sector challenges, such as extreme temperature or highly corrosive environments, high-expansion sealing, zonal isolation and flow control. We are committed to leveraging advantage for our customers through new technology solutions which are highly differentiated, low risk and significantly enhance the performance of wells.
